where's that? address. sounds familiar, so i'm sure i've driven/walked by the place, but i haven't tried it. (obviously.)

SUSHI KOKO in pacifica is my most favoritest(estestest) japanese restaurant. i'm always a bit wary of sushi joints, but this one never disappoints. doesn't hurt that i know the owners/cooks too, so i know where the fish came from and how the food is prepared.

for shits & giggles, i like chicken!chicken! in burlingame for lunch too. i think i just like the name, moreso than anything. ;)

      Piazza Italia Cafe -- Italian
      321 PRIMROSE RD BURLINGAME CA

The sushi joint I really love is Sushi Sam's in San Mateo. Spicy tuna has hot sesame oil, sesame seeds mixed in with green seaweed. They have this roll called hot dog - tempura yellowtail. Check that out. It's yummy.

i like sushi sam's too. actually koko's owners are personal friends of sam's. but i think the portions at sam's is too small, fish-wise. and it's often too busy in there, so you don't get that good ol' mom&pop treatment.

I will try it. It's only 5-10 minutes from where I work. Can you recommend the dishes to order. THANKS!

if it wasn't such a small place, i'd like the peninposse to make a go at it.

but let's see... recommendations. i'm one of those "everything's good" kinda gals, but some of my staple orders are:

-mike's roll (spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado, and fresh salmon roll)
-hanabi roll ("firecracker": white tuna, cucumber, carrots, quick fried in tempura batter and topped w/ wasabi-treated tobiko, teriyaki sauce, and two types of semi-spicy sauces)
            -white seabass shioyaki (mmmmmmmmmm)
            -white tuna/albacore nigiri (butterrrrr, baby)

oh! and there's a pretty healthy assortment of sake, if you like. =)

mynx -- if you're in the neighborhood do you want to head out to piazza? It's a tiny joint too. Bring scissors with ya or whoever you want to bring.

I'll be leaving to BKK for a month in April. I'm just counting down to those days. YEE HA..

heidi's pies in san mateo is always packed for brunch. quickie diner dig, so it's a lot cheaper.

does anyone else have any suggestions?

There's always Hobbee's at Central Expwy & Rengstorff in Mt. View ... don't know if if qualifies as a "brunch" place since it serves breakfast all day long, but I love their spiced tea!

Stacks, but it's always jammed. First Watch at... 2nd & Ellsworth? downtown San Mateo, likewise jammed. My new favorite is Creperie du Monde in San Bruno. www.lacreperiedumonde.com/main.htm I'm looking forward to trying Krazy Krepes on B, again downtown SM (to whose existence I was notified on this very tribe).

you know, i'm not too happy about krazy krepes. well, not the savory ones, anyway. the sweet ones i haven't tasted yet. i thought the savory crepes were too soggy, which kind of soured it for me. =\

i work real close to first watch in sm. my coworker had a bad experience w/ their cobb salad just last week. something about the bacon being bad/undercooked or something. not knowing this, i've eaten there and hadn't had any problems. take of that what you will.

                            ::Creperie du Monde::

I like this place. Price is right and the food is *definately* too good for the price. I stick to vegetarian and sweet crepes, but the salads are good and the have other stuff there as well.

I'd say go for it. I think there are a couple of reviews on tribe...

I tried First Watch in the shopping center at Trousdale and El Camino in... I guess that's still Burlingame. Or maybe it's Milbrae, I dunno. I wasn't impressed. And I can't put my finger on why. There's nothing wrong with it, I just didn't particularly warm to the place.. But it's not as busy as Stacks or the other places, so I *guess* I'd go there in a pinch.

Stacks in Burlingame is always mobbed. After say 8 on a weekend day, you better enjoy the hang with your party. But they have a good stuff, and if you have people in your party on a budget, there are a couple of low price options.

                          For Breakfast & Brunch...

Nini's, in Burlingame... Its on Bayswater, near the Peninsula Ave Overpass. An awesome traditional spot for weekend brunches... great when the weather is warm, since they also have an outdoor patio area. BTW, this place gets packed REALLY quick on weekends.

If anyone wants to grab brunch there, lemme know, its a short hop, skip & jump away from my place!

I used to frequent Ninis at loeast once a week..

They have the best coffee for free while you wait too..

And trust me, on Saturday if you show up at noon, you will be waiting, maybe up to as long as an hour.. But thats half the fun!

I like "The Crepevine" on Burlingame Ave. I found out about it in the city... 10th and Irving I think. They opened one in Burlingame a couple of years ago. Food's just as good, but I prefer the atmosphere of the Irving street location.

Food is great, good buy, lots of choices. Many veggie options. Some vegan options I think. Cash only, so go prepared. Probably my favorite place for breakfast in the area.... and it works lunch or diner. Pretty crowded on weekend mornings.

I don't know how fancy you like your "brunch" but The Original Pancake House in Los Altos *knows* how to make pancakes. Lots of kinds, all fresh ingredients... real eggs, real butter, real cream... so if you have a cholesterol problem you might make another choice. They don't even *have* egg substitutes of any kind.

If you want a *genuine* 50s/60s diner experience, The Millbrae Pancake House on El Camino is great. They also know how to make pancakes... no gummy centers with burned edges here. It's kinda retro, although it doesn't know it. It's like... a time warp or something. I went to tons of these places when I was a kid. I highly recommend it.

Bertolucci's in South City. It's an incredibly retro place, in food, in ambience, in waiter-ing. But the food is delicious, and you can go revisit the 70's/60's/50's while you're at it.

Pengrin is an enabler! My stomach is growling now.

I like Brother's Deli in Burlingame.

I agree with Armadillo about Tarboosh! Awesome place and you can dance on Friday nights.

I am in the southern Peninsula (Mountain View) so here are my picks for restaurants for the people living farther from San Fransicko:

Chef Liu's on Castro in MV--flavorful Chinese food.
Darbar (Indian) on Lytton in Paly Alto--all the Brit expats love this place and say it reminds them of home.
Uncle Franks BBQ in Old Middlefield in MV--deeelicious and tender meats smoked within an inch of their lives. Excellent sauce.
El Grullense Taqueria at the corner of Smell Camin-ho and James in RWC.
Lukoki at San Antonio Shopping center in MV--Hawaiian BBQ that is to die for!
Miyake on University Ave. in PA -- Sushi!
Golden Wok in MV -- yum yum dim sum!
DishDash on Murphy Ave in Sunnyvale -- Mediterranean num nums. Try the khenafeh.
I like Chao Praya in SM and Amarin in Sunnyvale/MV for Thai.
Fiesta Del Mar (two locations) has wicked Mexican food. The mole burrito kicks my ass.

OK now I need to eat! :)

After living in RWC for a few months, here are a few of my favorite places:
Sushi: Aya Sushi in San Carlos on Holly (x-street Old County) I wrote them a glowing yelp review. It reminds me of the good sushi places in Seattle. I tried Sushi Sam's and was totally underwhelmed. Not sure what the fuss is about that place, it's packed all the time and the portions are small.
Steak: Izzy's, also San Carlos, out by the SC Airport not far from Oracle. Great meat, great prices, good wine list, excellent service.
Caribbean/Jamaican: Back-a-Yard, eastern side of Menlo Park, on the edge of EPA, east side of 101. tiny place, good jerk and curry. Go before dark, the neighborhood's a bit sketchy.
Pizza/Pub: Marvin Gardens Belmont We like to call it the peninsula's Zeitgeist. Old school pub with pretty good pizzas and a good tap selection, and a HUGE back garden area with picnic tables that is RIGHT next to/under the Belmont Caltrain station. Laidback place, good prices.

      In Mountain View...
Taqueria Los Charros is one of my faves, on Dana 1/2 block off Castro. Burritos as big as your head and cheeeeep. And of course, GOOD too :)

I actually found a great taqueria that I go to on my lunch hour as it's not far from my office (although we're moving to an office in Santa Clara in a couple of weeks, so I will need to find a new awesome taqueria near there soon -- recommendations welcome!!)
It's called Taqueria Los Altos, at the corner of Rengstorff and Old Middlefield Rd. It's in a strip mall, diagonal from La Costena and Taqueria La Bamba. I know it seems crazy to go to this place instead of the other two, but they are super fast, cheap, and tasty.
The best thing there is the super suiza quesadilla, which is like a grilled super burrito minus the rice & beans, for less than $5 (without a drink).
