Live music

I'd like to hear about any clubs (like, bars) that have live music.

I don't want to know about the shoreline, and I don't want to know about the fox, and I don't want to know about San Jose.

The Blue Chalk in PA seems to have good music occasionally, but I can't find a schedule for them (usually it's DJs).

Little help out there?

cheers,

Fibbar Magee's in Sunnyvale has live bands on Friday, as well as Murphy's Law (both are on Murphy Ave.). The Quarter Note in Sunnyvale has live music--it's over by Lawrence Expwy.

Mulligans in RWC was hosting Friday bands for a while, but not sure what's going on lately.

Buddha Lounge in Mountain View was supposed to get a cabaret license, but since I don't go there, I don't know if they ever did.

I don't know anywhere else that would fit within your parameters. Sorry. :)

To answer my further investigations, Cafe Barrone had a band I liked this evening - Gaucho, playing "gypsy jazz". Barrone has a limited but high quality selection of beer, wine, and desert. I can never find listings for Barrone ("live music when we feel like it"). I've enjoyed Gaucho at the du Nord before, and would have made a point of catching them - instead, I lucked into it.

If the folks with live music just published listings - somewhere - is that too much to ask?

You would think that I would have this down since I go to live music usually several times a week, but usually always in SF or Santa Cruz! Mountain View is "too crowded so no one goes there" i.e.even though it is just down the street, too much hassle to go there. Molly McGee's did last time I was there, don't know if they still do. The Monte Carlo has, I think salsa type stuff. Also Alberto's has salsa (to think; when it 1st opened I saw Steve Kimock (jamband) Inka Inka (reggae) and Sundogs (zydeco) there...) The Buddha place is definitely a nightclub, unsure if they have live music. In Redwood City, the Little Fox has a lot of live music, with the Fox (next door) taking the bigger shows including Lou Reed! on the 7th. Maybe check the Metro or The Wave, entertainment papers that come out on Thursday for more.

metroactive.com/ is the metro's web site. If you go to their listings, they list "karaoke" and "dancing" as "live music", and list Molly McGee's and Alberto's as having "dancing". There are a couple of actual live listings for Mt View, and that's one at Red Rock - a small coffeehouse trio is a nice thing and all, but not what I have in mind. The metro is no help.

Lou Reed at the fox? If I saw him shooting up at Ugly's, that would be one thing - but I'm not going to sit in a chair and clap politely. The little fox trumpets The Cheeseballs and the Redwood City Blues Jam. Or the AC/DC cover band. Hard to get excited about.

I saw fishbone at the edge a few years back, that was pretty hot. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Yeah, you ain't gonna see NUTHIN like that around here. I remember the Dregs played there once...
I guess that could be a whole other thread. Why can't live music survive on the peninsula? Or even San Jose for that matter. 10 years ago there were tons of bands playing in San Jose. Hell, I saw Hot Tuna at the Usual once... I sure have not been down there in years...
